The Sheer Magnitude of the Devastation…
Attached are images to give you a feel for the magnitude of the devastation.
The first couple of photos are of the house directly across from our build on Washington Street. The house is a wreck, but the owners plan to rebuild. A message spray painted on the front of what remains of the structure, prevents the house from being demolished.
The rest of photos show that debris still litters the area, especially the blocks down by the waterfront. Stairs that lead to nowhere and lone mail-boxes are a common site. As are messages to friends, family and potential looters (see: ‘we are all ok…all valuables gone’).
There is nothing left of the restaurants that previously stood by the water and the pier is just a gnarled wooden frame.
It’s quite sobering to walk through the area and stand where a family’s house once stood.
It’s hard to believe that it’s over one year since the storm hit.
